In 1947, California-based interior designer Marjorie Reese Carson found herself in a quandary.Brimming with ideas for her clients’ posh homes, she was without the proper means to implement them, as the items from her mind’s eye did not exist. Finding that necessity is indeed the mother of invention, she hired two upholsterers and took to a chicken coop.This bold move ultimately resulted in her creating her own furniture lines and decorative upholstery.
